Whether you’re buying or selling a vehicle, there’s quite a bit of paperwork that goes into that transaction. While it varies from state to state what documents you’ll need, you’ll most definitely need the car’s title.

If your title is damaged, or has been lost or stolen, you’ll need to apply for a duplicate title through the Missouri Department of Revenue. Here’s how to get that process started:

First, fill out the Application for Missouri Title and License (Form 108). This should be filled out by the owner of the vehicle, and should be fully completed before you submit it. Make sure that you have it notarized. Your request will not be processed if your signature is not witnessed by a notary public.

If you’re applying for a duplicate title because the original was mutilated or destroyed, you’ll need to surrender it with your other documents in order to get a duplicate.

There is an $8.50 duplicate title fee, and a $2.50 processing fee in order to get your new title.

You can either submit your completed application and your fees to any Missouri license office, or you can mail it to the following address:

Motor Vehicle Bureau
301 West High Street
Room 370
PO Box 100
Jefferson City, MO 65105-0100

If you are planning to submit your application through the mail, they request that you not send cash through the mail. Checks, money orders, and cashier’s checks should be paid to the order of the Missouri Department of Revenue.
