Has your vehicle’s original title gone missing, or is damaged in some way? You’ll need to submit an application for a duplicate title, especially if you’re planning on selling your car in the near future. Thankfully, Minnesota’s Driver & Vehicle Services makes it easy to get a duplicate title. Check out our step by step guide to getting a replacement title below.

First, you can choose how and where you want to fill out your application for your duplicate title. In the North Star State, you can apply in person at a Deputy Registrar Office or by mail, to the following address:

Driver and Vehicle Services – Central Office
Town Square Building
445 Minnesota Street, Suite 187
Saint Paul, MN 55101-5187

If you go in person to the Central Office, they can typically process and issue you your new title within the following business day.

You’ll have to pay a duplicate title fee of $8.25 and a filing fee of $10. Also, be sure that your vehicle has current registration and that you’ve paid the appropriate taxes on it.

If you submitted your application and haven’t received anything within a six-month period, contact your local branch. They’ll reprocess your application at no additional charge to you.

Don’t want to wait for your duplicate title? Driver and Vehicle Services has a Fast Track program that will get you your title within 3 business days. There’s an additional $20 fee, which you can pay in cash or personal check at a deputy registrar office, or check only at the DVS Central Office.
