How to Get Your Title in Maine
One key piece of car ownership is making sure you have the title to your vehicle. This is especially true if you’re planning on selling your car in the near future.
Lucky for you, we’ve got a guide here on how to get your title in the great state of Maine! Check it out below.
To get an application for a replacement title, you’ll have to head over to the Title Unit in Augusta, or get one from any motor vehicle branch office location.
Make sure you fully complete the application; they won’t send you a new title if you’re missing any information! Have the owner of the vehicle sign on the dotted line, and pay the fee.
You can either mail off your application to the Title Unit in Augusta, or drop it off in person at a location closer to home.
If everything checks out on your application, they’ll mail you a new one. But, they may refuse to issue you a new title if you have any of the following errors:
- Didn’t pay the fee
- If they have reason to doubt that the applicant is the owner of the car
- If there is false information in the application
- If the application is incomplete or missing documents
- If they feel they need additional data to issue the title in good faith
If they decide not to issue you a new title, they’ll let you know through the mail and explain what steps you’ll need to take in order to get your title.
