Has your Nevada Certificate of Title gone missing or is too damaged to be read clearly? If so, you’ll need to apply for a duplicate. Thankfully, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has an easy application for you to fill out in order to get this handled. Check out our simple instructions below:

First, make sure that your vehicle actually had a Nevada title in the first place. If your car was purchased and titled in another state, you’ll need to get your duplicate title through that state.

If you’re certain that your car had a Nevada title, fill out the Application for Duplicate Nevada Certificate of Title. Note that you can only apply for a new title if it has been over 30 days since the last one was issued. So be careful not to lose it when you first receive it!

You’ll need to have the application notarized or have any authorized Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles Representative witness you signing the document.

If you’re planning on keeping the car in Nevada, there’s a $21.00 title fee. If the car is registered in another state, you’ll have to pay a $36.00 title fee. There may be additionally fees on top of those, depending on your situation, so be sure to check with the DMV if you might need to pay those.

Once you’re issued your new title, you are legally required to use that one and not the original. If you do find the original, you’ll have to surrender it to the DMV.

Note: this information is subject to change and is for informational purposes only. Be sure to check with your local DMV to make sure that all processes are the same, or you can visit the Nevada DMV page.
