1. Check ownership & paperwork Ensure the seller gives you the valid title, with all required assignment info filled out. If transferring within Georgia, complete the back of the title. (Department of Revenue)

  • If from out of state: the out-of-state title or registration in your name
  • Vehicle identification number (VIN), make/model/year
  • Odometer reading

  • Proof of insurance
  • If inspection is required: inspection certificate (Form T 22B) (Department of Revenue)
2. Complete the Title/Tag Application Fill out Form MV 1 (Title/Tag Application) in blue or black ink. (Department of Revenue)
  • Your info (name, address, etc.)
  • Seller info
  • Vehicle details
  • Lienholder info (if applicable)
3. Submit at your County Tag Office Take the completed application and all required documents to your County Tag Office. Some counties might allow parts of the process online ahead of time (pre-application) via Georgia’s DOR system. (Department of Revenue)
 
Be prepared to pay fees and taxes at this time.
4. Pay fees, taxes, and any penalties Typical fees include: Payment methods depend on the county (cash, check, card)
5. Wait for your title After everything is approved, the Georgia DOR will issue and mail you the title. The time may vary by county.
