A Little About Ogden, Utah

Ogden is in Utah and is 10 miles east of the Great Salt Lake. With around 90,000 residents, it is the seventh-largest city in Utah. For most of its history it has served as a major railway hub and to this day sees a lot of freight rail traffic. Located close to the Wasatch Mountains, Ogden is filled with historic buildings.

Originally named Fort Buenaventura, Ogden was the first permanent settlement by people of European descent. Established in 1846 but purchased by Captain James Brown in 1847, it was conveyed in a Mexican Land Grant.

First named as Brownsville, it was later named Ogden for a brigade leader of the Hudson's Bay Company, Peter Skene Ogden. Although there was a man, Samuel Ogden, who traveled through the western United States on an exploration trip in 1818, this was not who it was named for.

In 1972, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints completed the construction of a dedicated Ogden Utah Temple. Now it is home to many members of the LDS Church and known as Utah's second-largest city.

Overall, Ogden experiences either a humid subtropical climate or a humid continental climate. Summers are known to be both hot and relatively dry, with highs often reaching 95 degrees.

Rain is not very frequent in the summer, but the snow does occur in late October or early November. The winter has a high of around 37 degrees, with an average snowfall of 56 inches.
