How to Get Your Car Title in Tennessee

Getting your replacement car title in Tennessee isn't an easy process. That's why we made this guide to help you in the process of getting a new title to your vehicle!

How to Get Your Title in Tennessee

If you’ve satisfied a lien on a vehicle you’ve been driving, you should be the proud owner of the vehicle’s title. But, if your title has been damaged, stolen, or lost, you’ll need to apply for a duplicate title in the state of Tennessee. Here’s how to get that process started: Whether you’re applying in person or through the mail, you’ll need to fill out a Tennessee Department of Revenue Vehicle Services Division Duplicate Title form. Make sure to fill it out completely, they can’t process your request properly if you don’t.  You’ll need to have proof that any and all liens on the vehicle have been satisfied. If there are still outstanding liens, the duplicate title will be mailed to the current lienholder. There is an $11.00 title fee, which can only be paid via check. There may also be additional fees, depending on your county. If you’re applying in person, you’ll need to bring an acceptable form of identification with you to your local County Clerk’s Office. Note: this information is subject to change and is for informational purposes only. Be sure to check with your local DMV to make sure that all processes are the same, or you can visit the Tennessee DMV page.
