If you’re thinking about selling your car in New Hampshire, you’ll need to start gathering any documents that the next owner may need. This includes the vehicle’s title, which you should have received once you paid off the car. But, what do you do if your title document has been destroyed or has somehow gotten lost?

While the process varies from state to state, in New Hampshire, you’ll have to request a duplicate title. Here’s how to get started:

Fill out the Application for Duplicate Certificate of Title, first and foremost.

Make sure you get all listed owners to sign the application. If there are two listed owners, the duplicate title will be mailed to the first listed owner.

In the state of New Hampshire, if your vehicle is model year 1999 or older, they will not release a new title, so you are exempt from this requirement. Also, if you had a lien against your car when you first purchased it, you will have to disclose the lien, even if you have satisfied it since.

Note: this information is subject to change and is for informational purposes only. Be sure to check with your local DMV to make sure that all processes are the same, or you can visit the New Hampshire DMV page.

There is a titling fee of $25.00, which can be paid through a check or money order.

Most New Hampshire DMV offices will accept completed applications, or you can mail it off to the following address:

NH Dept. of Safety
DMV – Title
23 Hazen Drive
Concord, NH 03305

After they receive and verify your application, they will mail you a duplicate title within three to five business days.
